Grant: Visiting Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence 2027-28, University of Virginia
The Jewish Studies Program at the University of Virginia invites applications for its Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence fellowship for the 2027-2028 academic year. The programme brings one scholar per year to Charlottesville to strengthen existing areas of expertise and introduce new perspectives to Jewish Studies at the university. Recipients typically spend three to six weeks on site, conducting their own research while contributing to the intellectual life of the programme through a public lecture on their current work, a short seminar for advanced undergraduate or graduate students, a faculty reading group, a one-day conference, or some guest lectures in Jewish Studies courses. The residency is open to academic scholars and scholars of practice from the United States and abroad, and requires a PhD, a robust publication record, and demonstrated engagement in the field of Jewish Studies. Interdisciplinary collaborations with other units at the university are welcome but not required. The award comprises 10,000 US dollars plus travel funds, with a further 10,000 US dollars available for organizing a one-day conference. Applications are submitted via an online form, and finalists will be invited to a Zoom interview.
