Call for Papers: The Politics of Literary Form, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore

10. Juli 2026

The German Program at the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures of Johns Hopkins University invites proposals for the graduate student conference The Politics of Literary Form. The conference explores the reciprocal relationship between literary form and politics, asking how the formal structure of a work informs its political valence and how politics in turn shape literary form. Contributions across disciplines are welcome, examining this relationship from early modernity to the present, with topics ranging from the genealogy of literary forms and political theater to censorship, national identity, and the political agency of historiography. The keynote will be delivered by Oliver Simons of Columbia University. The conference takes place at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore from November 13 to 15, 2026.

Deadline for proposals: August 15, 2026 | DETAILS
