Call for Submissions: A yidisher tam. A Taste of Yiddish, Yiddish Book Center

24. August 2026

The Yiddish Book Center invites submissions of new translations of short Yiddish works on the theme of food. Its Yiddish in Translation series, which issues a call on a different theme each year, turns this time to the role of food in Yiddish literature and what it reveals about origin, class, culture, and tradition. Translations of any genre are welcome, including short stories, poetry, essays, memoirs, and drama, as well as recipes, provided the submission is substantial enough to stand on its own. Prose should be under 3,000 words, and translators may submit up to three poems. Submissions include a brief introduction and short biographies of author and translator. Translations must not have been published previously, and translators are responsible for securing the rights. The honorarium is 100 US dollars regardless of length, and accepted translations will be published on the Center's website throughout 2026 and 2027.

Deadline for submissions: September 25, 2026 | DETAILS
