Conference: The Past, Present, and Future of Southern Jewish History, Emory University, Atlanta
The Southern Jewish Historical Society will hold its 50th Anniversary Conference from October 16 to 18, 2026, in Atlanta, Georgia, hosted by the Tam Institute for Jewish Studies at Emory University. The conference celebrates five decades of scholarship on Jewish life in the American South and explores the past, present, and future of the field. The program features panels and roundtables on Southern Jewish identity and experience. Speakers include Marni Davis of Georgia State University, Stephen J. Whitfield of Brandeis University, and writer and filmmaker Jon Boorstin. An optional pre-conference excursion to historic Jewish sites in Atlanta is offered on October 15, and a seminar on Southern Jewish family and community history research is scheduled for October 18. The conference is held at the Courtyard by Marriott Atlanta Decatur Downtown, hotel reservations are available until October 2.
