Call Jewish Life between Locality and Mobility
The Jewish Studies Graduate Conference at the University of Pennsylvania takes place on the Philadelphia campus from February 28 to March 1, 2027 and is devoted to the relationship between locality and mobility in Jewish life. The organisers ask how ties Jews had to the spaces they inhabited have shaped conceptions of Jewishness, from the figure of the wandering Jew to present questions of belonging in a world where Jewish sovereignty exists alongside long-standing communities in the diaspora. The conference is aimed at graduate students and open to the disciplines connected with Jewish Studies, among them archaeology and the Jewish languages. Presenters receive up to two nights of accommodation, and limited travel funds are available.
