The Hungary-Israel Research Group at the Theological Seminary – University of Jewish Studies (OR-ZSE) invites proposals for a focused workshop on Emotions and Religious Subjectivity in Central Europe: The Long Nineteenth Century, exploring emotional and subjective forms of Jewish and Christian religiosity in Central Europe during the long nineteenth century (ca. 1780-1918), taking place on May 26, 2026 - May 27, 2026 in Budapest. The workshop aims to investigate how emotions functioned as historical forces: shaping communal and religious life while also being shaped by political, cultural, and theological contexts. Proposals focusing on Judaism, Christianity, and other religious traditions in Central Europe during this period with a comparative, interdisciplinary, and theoretical approach are welcome.
