Research Conference: The "Feminine" and the Holy

18. Februar 2026

The organizers invite proposals for the conference 'The "Feminine" and the Holy' taking place June 4, 2026, at the Schocken Institute for Jewish Research JTS, 6 Balfour St., Jerusalem. Among the questions the conference will address: How is feminine identity constructed in light of its interface with the holy? What mechanisms of exclusion and empowerment exist within this encounter? How do additional concepts such as "impurity" (tum’ah) "the profane" (hulin) or "taboo" function in spaces or texts concerning the feminine and the holy? What are the differences between the construction of holiness as masculine versus feminine? The conference will offer a multi-faceted examination of the charged and fertile connection between femininity and holiness in Judaism.

Deadline for proposals: March 31, 2026 | DETAILS
