Conference: Vassals and Lords, Madrid
The MUTIS Project: Muslims in Lordship Lands in Medieval Iberia, Department of Medieval History and Palaeography, National University for Distance Education (UNED), Madrid (Humanities Building, Faculty of Geography and History, National University for Distance Education in Madrid) invite proposals for an international conference on “Vassals and Lords: Christians, Muslims, and Jews in the Western Mediterranean (13th–15th Centuries)”, taking place in Madrid from October 26 to 28, 2026. The conference focuses on examining the relations between vassals of different religions and their lords, rather than the more common focus of relations between nobility and monarchy, although this interdependent dynamic must not be ignored as it also conditions interactions with vassals.
