Resource: Leyenzal. A Yiddish Literacy Project

Aug. 6, 2026

Leyenzal is a digital educational project that provides video lectures and reading materials on Yiddish literature entirely in Yiddish. The platform is designed for students and researchers of the Yiddish language and uses the standard variety taught at universities and summer programs worldwide. The collection features lectures by international scholars from institutions including York University, Columbia University, McGill University, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and INALCO. Authors discussed include I.L. Peretz, Mendele Moykher-Sforim, Itsik Manger, Abraham Sutzkever, and Joseph Opatoshu. Topics range from Yiddish philology to the image of Vilna in modern Jewish history to the translation of Yiddish poetry. The lectures are offered as multi-part video series.
