Call for Abstracts: Basle and Vilna 1897, PaRDeS 33

The journal PaRDeS, published by the Vereinigung für Jüdische Studien, devotes its 2027 issue to the year 1897, when the First Zionist Congress met in Basle and the Jewish Labor Bund was founded in Vilna a few weeks later. The issue traces the relation between the two movements, their shared roots and the points at which alliances became possible or impossible. The focus lies on the first decades, studies reaching into the 1930s will also be considered. Contributions are welcome from a range of disciplines, among them history and museum studies. Articles run to 30.000 up to 35.000 characters, shorter pieces on a single source to 8.000 up to 15.000.
