Workshop: The Jewish Middle Ages in the Museum II, Netzwerk Jüdisches Kulturerbe
The Working Group Mittelalter within the Netzwerk Jüdisches Kulturerbe, together with the Jewish Museum Augsburg Schwaben, invites participants to its eleventh workshop in Augsburg, taking place on the 8th and 9th of October 2026. Against the backdrop of the museum's planned redesign of its permanent exhibition, the workshop again addresses how medieval Jewish life can be portrayed and contextualized in a museum setting. Unlike in Cologne, for example, there are few archaeological finds in Augsburg, and it is mainly municipal and a few Hebrew sources that give insight into the community's life. Together, participants will discuss how vivid, scholarly grounded multimedia and spatial presentations can be developed from this disparate material, and where the limitations and future potential of museum concepts lie. Interested individuals from all disciplines are welcome, including building research, archaeology, art history, history, Jewish studies, historic preservation, and museology. The number of participants is limited.
