Online Course: Hidden Identities. The Story of Crypto-Jews and Forced Converts
Oct. 7, 2026
Siegal Lifelong Learning at Case Western Reserve University offers an online course on the history of the Iberian conversos, running on five Thursdays from October 15 to November 12, 2026, 7 to 8.30 pm ET, 1 to 2.30 am CET. The course starts from the attacks of 1391, which devastated Jewish communities in Spain and led to mass conversions to Christianity. It follows the consequences through the expulsions of 1492 and 1497 and the establishment of the Spanish and Portuguese Inquisitions, and asks how hidden Jewish communities sustained themselves. The course is taught by Juan Marcos Bejarano Gutierrez.
