Call for Paper: Inside/Outside. Jews, Law, and Jewish Law
The Jewish Law Association will hold its International 2027 Conference from July 19 to 21, 2027, at the Juridicum of the University of Vienna under the title Inside/Outside. Jews, Law, and Jewish Law. The conference takes as its starting point the tension between the presentation of Jewish law as a comprehensive, self contained legal system and the findings of lived experience and theoretical inquiry. Suggested topics include legal pluralism, the boundaries of law, the relationship between universality, exclusivity, and normativity, and the impact of Jewish law on non-Jewish legal systems. Papers engaging the theme in any historical period, geographic location, or disciplinary perspective, including pedagogy, are welcome. Panel proposals are preferred, though individual proposals will also be considered.
