Call for Papers: Counting Families, Controlling Lives. Jewish Demography, Family and State Policy in Central Europe
The Association for Central European Jewish History and Genealogy holds its second international conference at the Budapest campus of Central European University from May 4-6, 2027, together with the Center for Jewish Studies at CEU and the Hungarian Jewish Museum and Archives. The conference combines historical research with genealogical methods and digital tools in order to reconstruct family networks and migration patterns in the lands of the former Habsburg Empire. Several panels are devoted to state policies that sought to limit Jewish population growth, in the year of the 300th anniversary of the Familiantengesetze. Proposals of 200 to 300 words undergo peer review. The conference language is English, and speakers must be members of the association.
Deadline for proposals: November 15, 2026 | DETAILS
