Call for Papers: Lessons & Legacies Europe. De-centering Holocaust Studies

The Holocaust Educational Foundation of Northwestern University holds the third Lessons & Legacies Europe conference, taking place in Bucharest from November 1-5, 2027. Under the theme de-centering Holocaust Studies, it turns to regions and approaches that have remained at the periphery of research, among them perpetrator cultures beyond Germany and killing sites beyond Auschwitz. Eastern and Southeastern Europe stood at the core of the Holocaust but long at the margin of its study, and Nazi racial policy in North Africa is similarly understudied. The call also invites work on memory and on postwar justice in these regions. Proposals are welcome for individual papers as well as for panels and workshops, each with an abstract of up to 300 words. The keynote will be given by Radu Ioanid.
