The British and Irish Association of Jewish Studies holds its 2026 Annual Conference at Birkbeck, University of Londonon the theme of space and place. Since ancient times these concepts have been central to Jewish life and thought, from biblical narratives rooted in specific geographies, to sacred architecture and urban neighbourhoods, to diasporic movements and reimagined homelands. The conference asks how attention to place and the spatial can animate Jewish studies, exploring spaces that are real or imaginary, shared or separated, safe or hostile. It takes place at the Birkbeck Main Building, Malet Street, from July 13 to July 15, 2026.
