About us

The Specialized Information Service for Jewish Studies (FID Jewish Studies) offers researchers access to information, resources and services in all ares of research relevant to Jewish Studies and Israel Studies. The FID is a joint project of the University Library Johann Christian Seckenberg at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main and Hochschule Mannheim - University of Applied Sciences (until 2023 Stuttgart Hochschule der Medien) and has been funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) since 2016 as part of the “Specialised Information Services” Program (German: Fachinformationsdienste and hence "FID"). The FID Jewish Studies is currently in its third funding phase (2022-2025).

The FID focuses on providing access to literature and digital resources, information and data services. This includes subject specific library services such as cataloguing and indexing of printed and electronic media. We aim to generate high quality meta data and authority records for researchers and libraries, most significantly related to Hebrew-language publications. For that purpose, the FID has developed Revrit, a tool that automatically converts transliterated Hebrew-language title data and thus fundamentally improves the findability of Hebraica in library reference systems.

In addition, the JudaicaLink project processes subject-specific data for Jewish Studies as linked open data and makes it available via a knowledge graph and further digital tools.

The FID Jewish Studies is a joint project between the Frankfurt University Library and the Hochschule Mannheim - University of Applied Sciences, supported by Hebis, the Hessian Library Information System.
