Forum Jüdische Geschichte 2026
The 26th conference of the Forum for Jewish History will focus on the reorganisation of early modern Jewish communities following the severe crisis caused by the expulsions of the late Middle Ages. Phenomena of self-organisation, representation of interests and external communication, as they manifested themselves in the early modern period across a broad spectrum of Jewish settlements – large communities, small towns, suburbs, villages, residential and trading towns – will be used to illustrate the relationship between individuals and community organisations. The aim of the conference is to highlight the diversity of (emerging) forms of local and regional communities and congregations, (self-)organisation and administration, and forms of communication with the non-Jewish majority society.
The 26th working conference will take place from 6 to 8 February 2026 in cooperation with the History Department of the Academy of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart at the Hohenheim Conference Centre. It is financially supported by the Salomon Ludwig Steinheim Institute for German-Jewish History.
